Every week, we hear from families who are scrambling to keep jobs, care for children, or maintain stable housing while a loved one sits in jail simply because they can’t afford bail. A single arrest—sometimes for something as minor as a traffic-related charge—can unravel a person’s entire life. Bail isn’t just a number; it’s a barrier that separates people from their families, their communities, and any chance of stability while awaiting trial.
Our law firm was founded with a vision to provide exceptional immigration services. Over the years, we have grown into a trusted name in the industry, helping countless individuals and families achieve their immigration goals.

The West Virginia Bail Fund posts bail in order to free incarcerated people in the state of West Virginia. We believe no one should be locked in a cage, especially those being held pretrial (legally innocent) who simply cannot afford their freedom. Regional jails in West Virginia, which are notorious for over crowding and harsh conditions, are full of people facing these circumstances.
We see the carceral system as an extension of exploitive extraction, which has long shaped the social, political and economic landscape in West Virginia. Fighting to end cash bail and oppressive jails is a critical part of a more just future for our state, region, and world.

At this time we are only able to provide bail assistance to people in South Central Regional Jail. We hope to expand in the future so that we can bail people out of other regional jails throughout the state of West Virginia.

In the 2010s, West Virginia jails were the deadliest in the country. Two out of three people who died in jail had not been convicted of a crime--and remained legally innocent--at the time of their death. (https://www.acluwv.org/sites/default/files/field_documents/overcrowded_and_deadly_final.pdf)
During the Covid-19 pandemic, WV prisons had the highest death rate in the country (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/19/us/covid-prison-deaths.html)
Since January 2020, at least 307 people have died in a WV jail or prison. (https://wvpolicy.org/quantez-burks-report/)
While Black residents make up 3.7 percent of WV's general population, Black people compromise 12.1 percent of the WV jail population. (https://data.census.gov/table/DECENNIALCD1182020.P8?g=040XX00US54, https://dcr.wv.gov/resources/SiteAssets/Pages/publications/Pub_AnnualReport_FY2024_DHS_DCR.pdf)
People in WV jails are overwhelming poor people. Nine out of 10 people charged with a criminal offense in WV qualify for a court-appointed lawyer. Poor people are less likely to afford bail, meaning they will often be forced to await trial from a jail cell. On any given day, over 50 percent of people in WV jails have not been convicted of a crime. (https://wvpolicy.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/2025.03.03-WV-Jails.pdf)
